Why don't wizards use time-turners more often? ⌛
This question has been asked by Potterheads all across the world, and rightfully so, because there are many instances in the book where the magical community could've used Time Turners (like for saving James and Lily). If the Ministry could give them to Hermione to attend extra classes, why didn't they use them to reverse so many horrific events? Well we have to understand how Time Turners work, first.
A Time Turner doesn't actually change the past, it makes you experience it again from a different perspective. When present-you decides to go back into the past, future-you has ALREADY made the decision to do that. Like in The Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry and Hermione go back into the past, but they don't necessarily change it. They only experience it from a different perspective. Buckbeak had already escaped before Harry and Hermione went back into the past, because future-them had already made the same decision.
If this confused you a little, don't worry it confused me the first time too. But now you know how Time Turners work! We might have been able to explain why they didn't utilise Time Turners more often, but I'm still unable to comprehend why potions like Veritaserum (a truth potion) and Felix Felicis (a luck potion) aren't used more throughout the series. Sure, they are hard to brew, but what are potioneers for? Eating crystallised pineapple?
